Lag for break
Legal pocket calls
Ball-in-hand fouls
Safety declarations
Simultaneous lag determines initial break privilege. The ball nearest the foot rail takes the rack; contact with side cushions forfeits the lag.
Table remains open immediately following the break until a shooter legally sinks a called ball. The 8-ball pocket must be cleanly designated.
Cue ball scratch or illegal contact yields ball-in-hand anywhere on table. Players must place the cue ball without disturbing any object balls.
Shooters must audibly declare intentional safeties before striking the cue ball. Legal safeties terminate the inning even if a designated ball pockets.
Handicap race matrix
Every competitor carries an established skill rating between tier 2 and tier 7 based on verified league history. Higher seeds give racks based on strict differentials, establishing equitable races that reward execution over raw volume.
Races range from 2-2 draws for novice matchups up to 7-2 spreads when master tiers meet developmental players. All captains must confirm current player handicaps on the official scoresheet before lagging for the opening break.
